Aunque similar en tamaño a la Tierra, Venus no puede ser más diferente, su dÃa equivale a 116,75 dÃas terrestres (un dÃa más largo que su año), su presión atmosférica es 90 atmósferas terrestres y su temperatura superficial de 450ºC. Verdaderos retos a ser superados para convertir este planeta en uno habitable.
Sin embargo se ha pensado en ello. Reducir el calor de su atmósfera podrÃa requerir enormes sombrillas orbitales en el punto lagrangiano L1. La pesada atmósfera podrÃa ser removida usando 4×1019 kilogramos de hidrógeno produciendo agua y grafito a través de la reacción Bosch reduciendo además el exceso de CO2. Utilizando electrólisis podrÃa crearse oxÃgeno del agua resultante de la reacción Bosch. Finalmente, para producir el efecto de dÃa y la noche artificiales, se requerirÃan grandes espejos que reflejen luz a la larga noche de venus y sombrillas que reflejen la luz del largo dÃa venusino.
