Cristal lÃquido bajo luz polarizada. Este material ha sido utilizado en las pantallas de computadores pero también crecientemente en aplicaciones médicas y cientÃficas como en diversos tipos de sensores. Esta fotografÃa pertenece a by Karen Neill.
La selección de esta y otras fotografÃas premiadas fue llevado a cabo por un jurado que eligió 23 imágenes de extrañas formas y colores sorprendentes, y aunque abstractas, en ellasse puede observar células de cáncer de colon, de cáncer de próstata, cristal lÃquido y una mosca en azúcar.
Las fotografÃas muestran imágenes invisibles al ojo humano pero que gracias a técnicas fotográficas muy particulares y diversas se revelan para poder ser observadas. La totalidad de las imágenes se puede observar en www.wellcome.ac.uk/en/wia/gallery.html.
