Un equipo de científicos ha desarrollado un estudio, cuyos resultados se han publicado en la revista Nature Communications, que asegura que el veneno de las serpientes y de los lagartos se podría utilizar para el desarrollo de nuevos fármacos contra el cáncer, la diabetes y la presión arterial alta.
Los científicos, de la Universidad Nacional de Australia, descubrió que algunas de las toxinas de las serpientes podrían evolucionar y ser modificadas para transformarse en moléculas inocuas.
En este sentido, y según recoge Sky News, uno de los co-autores del estudio, el doctor Wolfgang Wurster, ha señalado que las serpientes utilizan el veneno para matar a sus presas, pero podrían desarrollar funciones diferentes si las moléculas se desarrollaran en otros tejidos del cuerpo.
